Snow!

Stone spiral pendant or gratitude pendant made from hand chosen beach rocks. Spiral is made from tumbled steel wire.

So much for Spring being here to stay! 30 cm of snow on the way starting tonight! There is nothing like a good storm raging outside while you and all that you love are snuggled safe inside with cozy blankets and warm hearts. Happy weekend everyone! :)

The Color of Red!

Flower pendant with red stone made from tumbled steel wire
It's a gorgeous, sunny, warm day out today. Could Spring actually be here for us here in foggy Newfoundland? I sure hope so! I can't wait to throw open the windows and air the house out after a long, cold Winter.

Monday!

Another Monday here and lots to do! I'm working on a second watercolor that I hope to finish today. I have some new empty nest pendants made and ready to put into my tumbler. I'm experimenting with different ways to add a patina to my copper jewelry. One way I use is to dip my pieces into a liver of sulphur mixture which turns the copper black. I then sand the wire to take some of the black off, which creates a lovely antique look to the copper. Another way is by heating the copper with a blow torch. You can achieve gorgeous colors that way. I'm going to use chemicals today to try and get a beautiful turquoise/blue color. That would be cool!  I'm still doing the Hello Soul Hello Business with Kelly Rae and Beth. This week we are working on our business plans and the idea of creating a business plan has always stopped me in my tracks. I'm a righted brained person and the thought of doing something so left brained frightens me. I ordered the book Right-Brained Business Plan by Jennifer Lee. It's for all of us creative people who cringe at the idea of any kind of formal business plan. I need all the help I can get and I'm looking forward to receiving this and getting started.
Happy Monday! :)

Empty Nest Pendant!

Empty Nest Pendant
I had forgotten that I had made these a couple of weeks ago and had put them in my tumbler to shine them up. Of course, the tumbler had went off days and days ago and they were sitting there. When I remembered them, I took them out, dried them off and put them in the oven on high heat. Different temperatures will produce a different color. These are fairly big --1 1/2 x 1 3/4 and I love them! I have a ring very similar to this, much smaller, that I wear all the time. Will be wearing my own like this today when I go out! It's so great being a jewelry maker, there is always something to choose from. :)

These and many other of my pieces are available in my Etsy shop.
Happy weekend everyone!

New Painting!

Watercolor
The first painting in a series of twenty or thirty that I'm doing on Newfoundland structures.

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

Oh my goodness, time flew by at such a fast pace that I didn't realise it's been so long since I last wrote! I've been so busy since the year began. I started and completed my very first mural which I was so excited about doing. It was a really great experience and I felt complete freedom painting on a large surface. I could do it every day. I'm on the second phase of the e course with Kelly Rae Roberts and Beth Nichols, Hello Soul Hello Business, and enjoying it so much!
I've made some new jewelry as well!
Hope everyone is doing well and I promise not to wait so long before I write again.

It's been an excellent week so far filled with friends, swimming, working in the studio, making and mailing orders, time spent with my daughter, and the business workshop, Hello Soul Hello Business with Kelly Rae Roberts and Beth Nichols. And last night I went to Underworld: Awakening in Imax 3-D. What an experience it was! :)

Above are some images I photographed over the week!

Another snow day and all is well! The chickens are in the oven, the kids are safe and snug and warm. I have pages to bind onto journal covers, jewelry to make and a painting to begin. Life is beautiful! Have a happy weekend everyone!

Crows!

Lately, the trees surrounding my house have been visited by dozens and dozens of crows, all at once. I love crows so I think it's pretty cool. Others believe it's a sign of death and that I better watch out. I believe it's a good thing and I welcome their visits. Today they stayed put while I took many photos.

Snow Day!

I love snow days, don't you? I spent the entire day in the studio making jewelry! In the evening I folded enough paper to make pages for ten journals. Watching my favorite program on tv while folding makes the time go faster and the task seem less tedious. Cutting ten pieces of canvas and painting each piece for journal covers is next on my list.

I am so excited to begin this e-course with Kelly Rae Roberts and Beth Nicholls on Monday. This is exactly what I need in my life right now. I want to grow my business in a big way this year and this will help me tremendously. I know it!

Reading this crazy vampire trilogy now. I do have to take it in small doses because the content is so bleak. Not a good read if you're depressed! The vampires are super creepy and I've had several bad dreams since picking up the first book over the Christmas holidays. Loving them, anyway! :)
